Fighting Poverty in Switzerland with Winterhilfe

Poverty in Switzerland is often invisible, and the minimum standard of living cannot always be achieved by one’s own effort. Since 1936, Winterhilfe has been helping those affected by poverty with services that are intended to relieve them and protect them from slipping into social assistance. Winterhilfe gives away beds, clothes, shopping vouchers and school fees; it also pays urgent bills for medical expenses.

Winterhilfe is committed to participation in social life by enabling families to undertake joint activities and financing leisure activities for children. In this interview excerpt, Neighbourhood News’s Ajita Chowhan talked to Claudio Borio, a board member of Winterhilfe’s Basel chapter. Listen to the interview excerpt here.
